Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Spurs have ‘made request’ to sign Atalanta defender Rafael Toloi

Tottenham Hotspur have approached Atalanta over the signing of Rafael Toloi, according to reports.

Toloi, the centre-half, has represented the Serie A club since 2015, having joined them from Sao Paulo in his homeland of Brazil.

Toloi has established himself as a superb defender since moving to Italy from Brazil

The 27-year-old is a former Selecao youth international, and he’s established himself as one of the better defenders in Italy during his time in Bergamo; last season he made 39 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with three goals.

And, according to Corriere Della Sera, Spurs have made a ‘request’ to Atalanta for Toloi.

The Lilywhites are said to have been rivalled by Marseille of France in their interest, although the report states that such requests were ‘blocked’.

Tottenham are said to be on the lookout for a new centre-back this summer, with Toby Alderweireld likely to leave north London.

Toloi could be bought by Spurs as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld

Manchester United are credited with holding an interest in the Belgium international, and if he does seal a transfer away from Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino will be left with just Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez as senior centre-backs, as Juan Foyth has still not made a Premier League appearance for Tottenham
