Manchester United’s Ander Herrera risks 2-year jail term for match-fixing

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera risks being sentenced to a two-year jail term if found guilty of match-fixing while playing for Real Zaragoza.

The 28-year-old has not been spared from the ongoing investigation over a discrepancy in a game spotted in a game involving the Zaragozans and Levante in 2011.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard could bag another six year ban from all football activities if the game that ended 2-1 in favour of Zaragoza to see them remain in the Spanish league, while Deportivo La Coruna were relegated is found to be fixed.

And prosecutors on the case believe some of the players, who were at the club at that period, could have participated in the deal which saw money exchanged hands among players of both clubs.

Herrera, who has denied his involvement in the said the wrongdoing may be summoned to court to clear himself of two large payments he got from his club, which he is then said to have immediately paid back in cash to his bosses.

Another notable name in list of 33 players involved in the case the Valencia’s Provincial Court want to bring to trial this summer is Atletico Madrid captain Gabi.

Also, the then Zaragoza manager, Javier Aguirre also faces trial along with the club’s sporting director Antonio Prieto, who are both denying the allegations. The bombshell news comes after a U-turn by Valencia-based investigating judge Isabel Rodriguez.
