Another bloodbath in Rivers as gunmen kill 5 in fresh attack



Just few days after 17 people were killed in a New Year Days attack in Rivers state, some gunmen have reportedly killed five residents of Egbeda community in Emohua local government area of the state.

Punch reports that the gunmen stormed the area but were chased away by some security operatives who managed to crawl through the bush.

The police also said only two people were killed in the attack.

A source in the community said the bandits wore black trousers and T-shirts to match with red caps.

They however escaped when they noticed that some soldiers were trailing them in the bush.

The source also said the attack occurred in the morning while villagers were preparing to move out for their daily activities.

“Some unknown gunmen wearing black attire with red caps came to Egbeda this morning and killed five persons.

“We all crawled through the bush to get them, but they ran away when we got there,” the source said.

Also, confirming the incident the Rivers state police commissioner, Ahmed Zaki, only one person was killed in Unyeada in Andoni local government area of the state.

Zaki said the hoodlums came in a motorcylce, shot and killed one person in Egbeda.

He also said that the police has beefed security in the area to prevent recurrence of such incidence.

HitNg earlier reported that the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, had placed a N200 million bounty on perpetrators of the Omoku attack on January 1.

Wike urged residents with relevant information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to make such available to the state government.

He said assured that the Rivers state government will settle the hospital bills of the victims and the funeral payments of those killed during the attack.
