Diego Maradona slammed by fans for antics during Argentina’s 2-1 victory over Nigeria

Diego Maradona is never far from controversy.

The Hand of God legend stole the show during Argentina’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Nigeria.

Maradona’s gesture was broadcast on live TV

After Marcos Rojo’s late winner to send the Albiceleste through, Maradona was pictured showing two middle fingers in the stands.

He also danced with a female Nigeria fan and performed a bizarre Dracular-style cross in front of his chest when Lionel Messi put his country ahead.

Rio Ferdinand and Gary Lineker were among those who condemned the 57-year-old’s antics.

Ferdinand said: “His career as a football player on the pitch was up there with the best, but unfortunately there are moments like this that do arrive. It is not nice to see that.”

Lineker added: “Diego Maradona perhaps let himself down with his celebration.”

And England’s Kyle Walker was among the many to react on Twitter.
