Denmark vs France: World Cup 2018 match preview, predicted team line-ups and more

Published

on

France may well be into the knockout stages of World Cup 2018 but opponents Demark will be fighting them all the way in Moscow as they look to join them there.

The Danes are on four points having beaten Peru and drawn with Australia, but a victory for the Socceroos and a defeat for the Europeans against Les Bleus could see them eliminated.

France players celebrate their winning goal against Australia.

You can hear what promises to be an exciting encounter live on talkSPORT at 3pm.

What the managers are saying

Age Hareide (Denmark)“We will follow the Australia-Peru game. We will have communication from their match. My assistant Jon Dahl Tomasson will receive all the information. We will look at it at half-time and during our match. We will know how it is going but I am not sure I will tell the players though.

“We know a point is enough to qualify but it is not a good idea to start the game to get a draw. You cannot set your players to play for a draw. It will make them passive. We will play a bit differently though than in our first two games, more cautious. We won’t give France too much space because they are so good on the counterattack.”

France manager Didier Deschamps

Didier Deschamps (France): “Our objective is to finish top of the group. A draw would be enough but I will never tell my team to play for a draw. We will play to win and I am sure Denmark will do the same.”

What the players are saying

Christian Eriksen (Denmark): “I don’t think it is important to know,” he said. “We have our destiny between our own hands. So I am not interested in the other match until it’s over. Unless Peru are like 5-0 up! Otherwise, I don’t need to know the score!”

Raphael Varane (France): “Christian Eriksen is a quality player who knows how to play in his teammates, who has interesting technical qualities. He is able to destabilise a defence by his mobility.

“For us to counter him, if he has to play, we must leave him few spaces. Denmark concedes few goals, they have not lost since 2016, we will try to win. For the rest, we’ll see, we do not do any calculations. We need to keep progressing and ramping up as the competition progresses.”
